Wild Balloon Pursuit

Certified Wildlife Pursuit Division. Est. 2026. No balloons harmed on purpose.

About the Division

The Wild Balloon Pursuit Division exists to document, with total sincerity and zero peer review, how a single pastel balloon reacts to being approached. We are not a party supply company. We are not a research institute. We are a Division, and we have the badge to prove it.

The Pursuit Protocol

Every balloon under observation is fitted, invisibly, with a standard avoidance routine: the moment a hand approaches, it steers away, wobbling slightly for reasons our own staff describe as ‘nerves.’ Cornering it against an edge of the enclosure is, per protocol, the only sanctioned method of contact.

The Evasion Class

Every successful capture raises the specimen's Evasion Class by one full tier, regardless of how the capture actually went. A balloon caught after a heroic thirty-second chase and a balloon caught immediately because it drifted into a corner receive an identical promotion. The Division finds this fairer than the alternative.

Herd Observation

Once field data reaches a certain volume, additional specimens are introduced to observe herd-evasion behavior: balloons begin aligning and spacing themselves as a group, fleeing in loose formation rather than alone. This is, as far as we can tell, real flocking behavior and not just several balloons independently afraid of the same hand.

Aerial Supremacy

Specimens that survive enough pursuits are eventually awarded Aerial Supremacy: a permanent, non-negotiable immunity to popping. From that point on, contact is registered but nothing happens, which the Division considers a satisfying enough outcome to end the study there.
